Azithromycin (other names: azivok, azilid, azitrox, zetamaks, zitrolide forte, sumazid, sumamecin) is a bacteriostatic broad-spectrum antibiotic that is especially effective in the therapy of diseases and the treatment of co-infections, for example, Helicobacter pylori. Azithromycin suppresses the synthesis of the protein of the microbial cell, inhibits the peptidranslokase, slows down the multiplication of bacteria and creates high concentrations in the inflammatory focus, providing an effective bactericidal effect.
Antibacterial drug of a wide spectrum of action from the group of macrolides-azalides, acts bacteriostatically. Linking to the 50S subunit of ribosomes, inhibits peptidranslokase at the stage of translation, suppresses protein synthesis, slows the growth and multiplication of bacteria, has a bactericidal effect at high concentrations. It acts on extra- and intracellularly located pathogens.
Microorganisms can be initially resistant to antibiotic action or can acquire resistance to it.
