Premarin is an estrogen preparation that regulates the work of the female reproductive system.
The main active substance of the drug is estrogen, which forms in women secondary sexual characteristics. Getting into the blood, it stimulates the synthesis of proteins and DNA. In this case, the sensitivity of the uterus increases, the total cholesterol level decreases, HDL is increased, normal bone structure remains. Due to this, such symptoms of menopause as heart palpitations, pressure surges, increased sweating, a sharp change of mood, hot flashes to the upper body, nervousness, irritability, tearfulness, unmotivated panic, increased appetite and weight gain are reduced.
The drug is indicated as a hormone replacement therapy before, during and after menopause, with ovarian hypofunction, sexual infantilism, breast carcinoma, postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Contraindications:

– Proven breast cancer or suspected of it;
– Proven estrogen-dependent neoplasms or suspicion of them;
Bleeding from the genital organs of an unknown genesis;
– Acute thrombophlebitis and thromboembolism (an indication of a history of the condition associated with the previous use of estrogens);
– Proven or presumptive pregnancy;
– Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Side effect:

On the part of the reproductive system: the appearance of bloody discharge (of varying intensity), a change in the intensity of menstruation, amenorrhea.
From the digestive system: nausea, vomiting, flatulence, epigastric pain, cholestatic jaundice, pancreatitis.
On the part of the endocrine system: increase or decrease in body weight, increase in the size and tenderness of the mammary glands, the appearance of discharge from them, the change in libido.
From the side of the central nervous system: headache, dizziness, migraine, chorea.
From the side of the organ of vision: increased curvature of the cornea.
Dermatological reactions: melanosis (may persist after discontinuation of the drug), chloasma, alopecia, rash.
From the cardiovascular system: thromboembolism of veins, thromboembolism of the lungs.
Other: swelling, exacerbation of porphyria.
